Course Details

Our Cambridge Adults English Course is ideal for students aged 16 and above who want to study English in Cambridge.
Classes take place at our year-round campus on Hills Road, just a 10-minute walk from the city centre and close to the Station Road site, home of the Cambridge Juniors programme.

With a maximum of 14 students per class, youโ€™ll receive personal attention from experienced teachers and plenty of opportunities to practise speaking English every day.

Beyond the classroom, youโ€™ll enjoy a full programme of afternoon and evening activities and weekend excursions, designed to help you explore Cambridge, experience British culture, and make new international friends while improving your English in real-life situations.

Central Cambridge Location

Cambridge is one of the worldโ€™s most famous university cities, offering a perfect mix of history, culture, and student life.

Our school is just a short walk from the city centre, surrounded by colleges, cafรฉs, and green spaces.
Students can explore museums, go punting on the River Cam, or relax in the parks while enjoying the friendly and international atmosphere that makes Cambridge so special.

Teaching

  • 15 or 20 full hours teaching per week
  • Maximum class size of 14
  • Elementary โ€“ advanced levels
  • Reports and certificates

Placement Test

On your first day, you will take a short written test and have an interview with a teacher so that we can assess your level of English and choose the best class level for you.

Lessons

Select English offers classes from elementary to advanced level. Each student undergoes a level test on the morning of their first day with writing and speaking components, before joining a class at the correct level

We have a dynamic and enthusiastic core teaching team who all hold recognised teaching qualifications and have years of experience in teaching English courses across the world as well as here in Cambridge. They know what it takes to improve studentsโ€™ language level as well as how to pass exams, and they will be with you every step of the way during your course.

Objectives

You will learn how English is used in real-life, focussing on the use of the four key skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading). In addition to modern textbooks and resources, teachers regularly use a mix of media sources for stimulating classroom use.

Pre-Departure Information

Before you come to Select English there are a few things that need to be arranged.

Consent & Medical Forms

At the time of booking, we will send you a consent and medical form to complete for your child/children. You must return these to us before the start of the course. These apply to students aged 16 and 17 studying on this course.

Insurance

Select English recommends that all students purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy prior to departure for the UK.ย ย

In this way you will be covered in the event of disruption to travel, loss or damage to belongings and so on.

Most students will also be liable to pay for any medical treatment needed whilst in the UK; an insurance policy that covers medical expenses is therefore advisable.

Climate

The summer months are June to September; in this period the weather is normally warm and pleasant, with occasional hot spells โ€“ but at night it can always be chilly here, even when the days are hot.

UK Law

When travelling abroad it is always important to be aware of relevant laws in the country that youโ€™re visiting.

In the UK it is illegal to buy cigarettes or alcohol if you are under the age of 18, and possession of most drugs (including cannabis) is illegal.

Pocket Money

Please provide your child with adequate spending money before departure.

It is recommended that students bring at least ยฃ25 per day to cover the cost of any snacks, drinks, souvenirs and gifts and so on.

We strongly recommend that students have a pre-payment card instead of bringing large amounts of cash.
