Summer School 2017: What We Got Up To

Wow…Summer School 2017 was a good one! 8 weeks, over 1000 students, and some very tired staff later, let’s take a look back at what we got up to this year.

Welcome Parties

What’s the best way to welcome our new summer school students and let everyone get to know each other? Throw a big party of course! Every course starts with a welcome party, where students and staff play ice-breaking games and have a lot of fun.

Summer School Activities

At Select English Summer School we offer a wide range of social activities which allow students to have fun, make friends, practice their English and learn about British culture. Activities this year included punting on the River Cam, t-shirt decorating, Irish dancing, open-air Shakespeare plays at Cambridge University and making rockets!

Summer School Trips

Every Saturday throughout summer school, there is a full-day excursion which takes students to London, Oxford or Canterbury. There is also a mid-week half-day trip to the nearby market town of Bury St Edmunds. Students enjoy a guided tour, followed by some free time when they can explore with friends and do some shopping.

End of Course Show and Farewell Party

Alas, the course has to end sometime, but we make sure that everyone leaves on a high! Classes prepare throughout the course for their end of course show, before performing it to their course mates on the last Friday. The final evening activity is a farewell party, where everyone says their goodbyes and promises to keep in touch.
